Lead shipping containers for maximum protection from radiations

Lead lined storage and waste containers come in many different shapes and sizes, and are composed of many different outer materials, the most common, being steel. These containers are used most commonly for the storage, and or disposal, of materials that have been contaminated with low-level energy gamma radiation. This includes protection from contaminated syringes, as well as many other nuclides used within the field of Nuclear Medicine.

Mediray TM1, emphasizes the use of Lead lined storage and waste containers to minimize exposure to radiation, while maintaining a clean and safe environment.

The storage and decay containers from Mediray TM are:

1. Steel lined lead storage and decay container

Medi-RayTM fabricates stainless steel lined lead storage containers to custom shapes and sizes. Custom designed handles and hinges enable Medi-RayTM to provide and promote safety and durability. Epoxy and enamel coatings are available for solid lead configurations.

2. Lead lined storage and decay containers

To maintain the highest levels of hygiene while minimizing exposure, Medi-RayTM emphasizes the use of lead-lined stainless steel containers that provide a dent-resistant, stable and easily cleaned outer surface that does not chip or wear like traditional paint finishes.

The internal lead shielding is fitted with an inexpensive and disposable plastic inner liner that facilitates the rapid transfer of the radioactive contents into our longer term storage bins. It also dramatically reduces the amount of cleaning required to pass a wipe test.

These heavily shielded containers are used to collect radioactive waste materials from multiple storage containers. These portable units can be wheeled from station to station within the laboratory facility to collect the contents from individual storage containers, as well as container and laboratory cleaning materials, so that these radioactive materials can be safely stored for later shipment to a certified waste disposal company.

4. Lead glove boxes

Used to store larger quantities of radioactive pharmaceutical inventories, these Glove Boxes are designed with stainless steel ergonomic handles, precision hinges and finely counterbalanced doors. They permit one-handed fingertip operation, which helps the rapid selection and removal of radiopharmaceutical vials and minimizes the clinicians' exposure.

The lead lined container comes with many benefits to individuals, as well as their surrounding environments. For example, they reduce the risk of accident or unnecessary radiation exposure to workers or the general public, and they reduce costly storage and maintenance. In addition, these containers are equipped with disposable plastic liners to allow the rapid and efficient transfer of radioactive contents.

Different types of lead bricks used for radiation shielding

Lead is effective for shielding radiations because of its high density and atomic number. Lead is effective for protection against gamma rays and x-rays. The thicker the lead the less the radiation.

Lead bricks are one of the forms of lead used in radiation shielding. Lead bricks are typically used in reactor for radiation shielding. Because of the high intensity of the radiation produced in those reactors, a thicker form of lead is necessary to highly reduce their intensity. As lead bricks have more thickness there are used to shield those high intensity radiations.

Type of lead bricks used for shielding:

1. Standard Rectangular Lead Bricks

This type of lead bricks are used for standard shielding wall formation. The fit and finish of each lead brick yields the finest shielding characteristics available.

2. Interlocking Lead Bricks

These lead bricks are used in the corners and other joints of the basic lead shielding wall.

3. Lead Barrier Walls and Caves

Using the above two types of lead bricks a wall or cave it formed so that they can be fitted directly in the area of shielding.

4. Dura block Custom Lead Bricks

This type of lead bricks has interlocking system so that they are firmly attached to each other. This assures strong shielding from harmful radiations.
